1

Miami/Cienfuegos/Sancti Spiritus, CUBA Bienvenidos á Cuba! After customs formalities, meet your Cuban people-to-people guide and prepare to enjoy your first meal in Cuba at a local Paladar, followed b a festive evening at one of the town's music venues, where the locals come to socialize, enjoy great music and have fun, Cuban style.
Accommodations: Hotel Rijo or Don Florencio.(L,D)

Sancti Spiritus/Trinidad After breakfast, we drive to Trinidad, one of the best preserved colonial cities in Latin America and a World Heritage Site for its architectural and historical importance. For centuries, a sugar production center, landowners gained enormous wealth, building lavish mansions and centers for art and culture. Take a walking tour of this beautiful town and then visit the pottery studio of the Santander Family to learn about the process of ceramic production in Cuba. You'll have a chance to create your own work of art. Continue with a visit to a "casas particular" or bed and breakfast, one of the Cuba's new entrepreneurial opportunities in a country where the State typically owns and runs most enterprises. After lunch, visit the Hacienda de Manaca Iznaga in the heart of the Valley de los Ingénios, the historic heart of sugar country. See the mannor house, slave quarters. (B,L,D)

Sancti Spiritus/Varadero
Today, you'll visit the picturesquetown of Santa Clara, the Museum and Mausoleum of Che Guevara, as well as the Santa Clara Music and Performing Arts School, where you'll learn how music, the visual and performing arts, and dance become a part of the education of all Cuban youth. You'll be treated to a performance by some of the talented students. After lunch, we drive to the beautiful beach town of Varadero, your home for the next 3 nights. You'll have the rest of the day to enjoy the facilities at your beachfront all-inclusive resort hotel. Accommodations: Meliá Los Américus Varadero. (B,L,D)

Varadero/Cárdenas
Cruis This morning, we drive to the nearby town of Cárdenas to visit an unusual Craft Workshop. Artisans, a husband and wife team, have received prizes in recognition for their creative work with fabric and marquetry. You'll tour their workshop and experience the creative process as it is taking place. Later, tour the provincial town of Cárdenas and see village life first-hand. This includes the varied (and often creative) means of transportation residents rely on - like homemade bicycles and horse-drawn carriages. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. At night, have dinner at one of the hotel's speciality restaurants. (B,L,D)

Varadero/Coliséo
We drive to the village of Coliséo and the Coincidéncia Farm, founded by agriculturist Héctor Correa in in 1987 in order to preserve certain native species of fruit that he knew and loved as a child. With a cart full of seedlings, he began to plant his farm and in the process, he created a seed bank to share with other farmers. He also created the first ceramics workshop in Matanzas, blending art with nature. On the way back to Varadero, we stop at Danzón's Club, where you'll learn some amazing salsa moves and fancy footwork. Enjoy a late lunch and the rest of the day at leisure. Dine tonight at one of the hotel's restaurants. (B,L,D)

Varadero/Matanzas/Cojimar
On our way to Havana, we stop at a community center in Matanzas to learn about the Afro-Cuban culture and religion at Callejón de las Tradiciones. A practitioner of Santeria will introduce you to the symbols and important customs of the faith, a unique blend of Christianity and African animist faiths. Continue to the fishing village of Cojimár, the setting for Hemingway's great book, "The Old Man and the Sea." Enjoy lunch at the local paladár. Continue onto Finca Vigia, Hemingway's beautiful Cuban retreat that is now a museum where his 9,000 book library is preserved. Also there are his animal trophies and his fishing boat, Pilár. We arrive in Hvana late in the afternoon. You will enjoy dinner on your own in Havana. You can choose a private restaurant or a paladar.

Havana
This morning, we walk through Havana's oldest neighborhood, a World Heritage Site since 1982. We'll learn about it's historic, architectural and cultural significance. Learn about the City Historian's massive efforts to restore Old Havana's buildings, attract new tourism and new investment, while improving social services for local residents. Learn about Cuba's two currency system in a local ration store and then continue to a private cigar rolling demonstration to see how the famous cigars are individually created. After lunchin a local paladar, take a ride in vintage cars to visit a workshop that converts these old cars into antique treasures. Later, visit the Plaza de la Revolución, the most famous and politically important square in Cuba. The square has witnessed many rallies that have altered the course of Cuban history. Here you will see the 109m tall tower and an 18m statue of José Marti. Our last visit today is to "Fusterlandia," the home and surrounding neighborhood of the "Picasso of the Caribbean," Jose Fuster. Then enjoy a welcome dinner at a private restaurant. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes as you will enjoy live Cuban music and salsa dancing. (B,L,D)

Havana/Miami
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and board your touring coach for a visit to the famous Christopher Columbus Cemetery, a miniature city of mausoleums, crypts, family chapels and vaults with their sculptures and ornate gravestones. Go onto the Artisan Market where you'll find plenty of souvenirs such as handicrafts, posters and other collectibles. Bid farewell to Cuba as you transfer to Jose Marti International Airport and check-in for your charter flight back to Miami and transfer to the Crowne Plaza hotel.

Miami/Rochester
Transfer to Miami Intl. Airport to board your return flight to Rochester or your Home City.
