Budapest, Hungary
Welcome to Budapest, the capital of Hungary and your Viking River Cruise longboat. After boarding, the afternoon is yours to relax and explore the capital city of Hungary. You can join a walking tour of Budapest's famous covered market in the 3-story Great Market Hall, established in 1897. Visit the fabulous Parliament building (left). As the sun begins to set, you can return to the boat for a traditional Hungarian dinner (D)

Budapest - Fisherman Bastion

Begin the morning with a panoramic tour of the Pest side of the city. Walk along Andrássy Avenue and see the 19th and 20th century mansions, the National Opera House, Parliament and the Chain Bridge. Learn more about Hungarian history with a stop along Heroes' Square. The cross the Danube to Buda's Castle District. Walk up to the Fishermen's Bastion, Matthias Church and enjoy the brillant views along the way. Return to the ship in Visegrade for lunch and cruise along the Danube. Enjoy a midafternoon Viennese coffee workshop, with apple strudel.
Vienna Kunst Museum

Vienna, Austria
Today we begin with a tour of charming Vienna, the capital of Austria. Ride along the Ringstrasse, which replaced the city walls in the mid-19th century. Enjoy some of the city's baroque architecture, including the Opera House, St. Stephan's Cathedral and Hofburg Palace. Visit Return to the ship for lunch. Explore the city and visit Mozart's home and view the pianos of old. There is also an optional tour of Schönbrunn Palace, the Versailles of Vienna, with its formal gardens. After dinner, relax and enjoy a classical concert.

Melk Abbey

We sail through the Wachau Valley to visit the Benedictine abbey (left) at Melk and join a guided tour of the ornate interior of this baroque wonder. See the frescoes and admire the library's extensive collection of medieval manuscripts before enjoying the garden courtyard and the view of the Wachau Valley from the terrace. Later, rejoin your ship for dinner and leisurely cruising along the Danube. You'll have a chance to taste some local Austrian specialties as you view riverside towns and castle ruins.

Passau - Riverside

In the morning, we arrive in Passau where the Inn, Ilz and Danube Rivers meet. Your guided walk along the town's narrow streets will take you through the Old Town. View the New Bishop's Residence and visit St. Stephen's Cathedral with its ornate interior. Inside, you are treated to a special concert played on the 17,000-pipe organ (May 1 - Oct 31, closed Sundays). Enjoy lunch aboard your ship and return to the city for your own exploration.
Regensburg Cathedral

After breakfast, go for a guided walking tour through the scenic town of Regensburg, one of Europe's best-preserved medieval cities. See 13th and 14th-century church spires, towers and patrician houses. Walk by a 12th-century stone bridge and St. Peter's Cathedral. Shop and visit Germany's oldest restaurant, the Alte Wurstkücke. Have lunch aboard your ship. Enjoy a scenic cruise along the Danube in the afternoon or take an optional Danube Narrows excursion. Explore 400-ft. chalk cliffs and visit Weltenburg Abbey, renowned for its dark ale brewed by the monks here since 1050.
Nuremberg - Palace of Justice

We sail through the locks of the Main-Danube Canal, an engineering marvel that stretches 106 miles from Bamberg on the Main River to Kelheim on the Danube. Started as Charlemagne's dream in 793, it was completed in 1992 with 16 locks that raises the water 1,332 ft. Arrive in Nurember, Bavaria's second largest city. Your tour features Zeppelin Fields, the former Nazi parade grounds, and the Palace of Justice (left) that was the site of the war crime trials. Walk through the imperial castle grounds, the Albrecht Dürer House and the Main Market Sq.

After breakfast, disembark and proceed to the airport for your return flight home. OR - You can experience the Czech Republic with 3 nights in the facinating city of PRAGUE, including a tour of the Old Town and Prague Castle. (B)
